Kroger shoppers will be able to stretch their groceries a little further next week through a new food drive the grocery store chain is sponsoring along with the West Virginia Lottery.

The "Give and Win Food Drive" will run from Nov. 5-9. For every non-perishable, canned food donation at any Kroger store, the donor will receive one free West Virginia Lottery promotional ticket, while supplies last. Expired canned food will not be accepted.

The state's 38 Kroger stores each will have a "Give and Win" collection box. Donations will be given to Mountaineer Food Bank in Gassaway, Huntington Area Food Bank and Union Mission Family Services in Charleston.

"We are pleased to support the Lottery's statewide food drive," Allison McGee, customer communications specialist at Kroger's Mid-Atlantic region, said in a news release. "This is another opportunity for us to reach out to customers who want to partner with us in helping feed the hungry and make a difference in their local communities all across West Virginia."

The Kroger family of stores donated more than 66 million pounds of food in 2011. Kroger is a founding partner of Feeding America, which is the nation's largest domestic hunger relief organization.

Kroger operates 122 stores in its Mid-Atlantic region, which serves West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina and the eastern areas of Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio.
