Huntington fire crews were called to a two-story house completely engulfed in flames just before 11 p.m. Monday night.

The 2800 block of Eighth Avenue was blocked off while firefighters used up to four hoses and a water cannon to keep the flames down on the house.

Neighbors say the house was abandoned for several years.

Crews also kept water on the nearby trees to keep the fire from spreading into the woods.

Smoke and flames shot over 1oo feet in the air as neighbors and others watched from the road.

No word on what started the fire.

This is the second empty house fire Huntington crews fought Monday night.

The fire is under investigation.
