During an election in which every vote was critical for so many races, two contest were decided in Kanawha County before election day.
In the race for Sheriff, Metro 911 Director John Rutherford ran opposed. Rutherford is a former Chief Deputy of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department. He is the brother of current Sheriff Mike Rutherford, who wasn't able to run again for office because of term limits.
Kanawha County Prosecutor Mark Plants also ran unopposed for re-election to his post. This will be Plants' second term in office.
