Preservation Alliance of West Virginia will host a free event with Ron Tanner, author of "From Animal House to Our House," at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Phi Sigma Kappa House, 672 North High Street in Morgantown.

Preservationist and do-it-yourself hero Ron Tanner is coming to town to perform his comic monologue. Tanner bought a wrecked Victorian in Baltimore a decade ago because his girlfriend fell in love with the place. Never mind that it was condemned property and a former frat house. Ron's realtor warned, "Don't do it. This place will eat you alive."

The crumbling Victorian brownstone was so trashed, full of garbage and frat-boy furniture (including a walk-in closet full of term papers) that nobody would buy it. The bank was selling it "as is," but Tanner's girlfriend really wanted the house. So, he bought the place.

Tanner is touring the country with a slide show that takes viewers through the harrowing and humorous times that he and Jill experienced.

PAWV is the statewide grassroots organization devoted to preserving West Virginia's history and culture through education, advocacy, heritage tourism development and the revitalization of special places. PAWV has established several programs including the annual Endangered Properties List, preservation trades workshops, and statewide preservation conferences and award banquets.
