    Alpha Natural Resources announced July 31 that 11 affiliated coal mines and other facilities in West Virginia could be idled by mid-October, potentially causing 1,100 to be laid off.

UPDATE:

 

Charleston Fire Department responded to a fire at a home located at 1547 Garfield Avenue on the West Side Hill.

Emergency crews got to the scene of a fully involved fire with flames coming out of the roof and walls of the vacant one-story house.

Nineteen firefighters, four fire trucks, two EMS unit, and one rescue unit responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire has now been ruled arson.

It is under investigation by Charleston Police and Charleston Fire departments.

Emergency crews were called to a fire on the 1500 block of Garfield Avenue in North Charleston just after 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to Officials when firefighters arrived the house was fully engulfed, the home appeared to have been vacant. The home was a total loss

The cause of the fire has been ruled as arson.
