Saint George Orthodox Cathedral hosts YWCA benefit dinner

Posted: Updated:

The Saint George Orthodox Cathedral is hosting the 26th annual Thanksgiving Benefit Dinner to aid the Homeless on Sunday, Nov. 11 from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m.

The event includes dinner, music and fellowship.

Proceeds from the event support the YWCA Sojourner's Shelter for Homeless Women and Families, which provides hot meals, a warm place to sleep and long-term skills for self-sufficiency for homeless women and families in our community.

Proceeds also support homeless adults throughout the community served at the YWCA Sojourner's Education and Job Readiness Center, which provides educational opportunities, job skills training and referrals to job placement.

After-care specialists continue to work with each individual as they continue their path to self-sufficiency and independence. The low return rate indicates the program's success.

Last fiscal year, YWCA Sojourner's Shelter provided 70,913 meals to 1,215 individuals, including more than 300 children. The shelter also provided 3,800 hours of counseling for substance abuse, mental health and special counseling for children and 7,408 hours of case management-including assistance with community resources, transportation and housing.

Tickets are $30 per person (children under ten are free) and can be obtained by calling the YWCA Sojourner's Shelter at 304-340-3553 or online at www.ywcacharleston.org. Tickets can also be purchased at the door. Checks should be made payable to the Thanksgiving Benefit Dinner.
