Family says arsonist ruined cherished memories

CHARLESTON, West Virginia -

A Charleston family says an arsonist took away a part of their history over the weekend.

They spent the day Sunday looking at the charred remains of a house on Garfield Avenue on Charleston's West Side.

Investigators with the Charleston Fire Dept. say the blaze appears to be arson.

Zina Ford said her uncle built the house brick by brick and while it was vacant at the time the walls held cherished memories.

"It is an act of the devil," Ford said. "It is an act that I don't understand. Why people have to burn other people's stuff up?"

There have been several arson investigations related to fires on the West Side in recent months. If you have any information about these incidents you are asked to call the Charleston Fire Department at 304-348-8058 or West Virginia's Arson Hotline at 1-800-233-FIRE.
