When the Education Alliance chose to honor the D'Antoni family, little did they know that they would be honoring the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.

But Mike D'Antoni, as well as his father, brothers, and sister will be honored for their work ethic and community service at the Education Alliance's annual dinner Wednesday night at the Marriott Town Center in Charleston.

According to a Lakers press release, Mike D'Antoni was signed to a multi-year contract with the Lakers. A press conference is being planned Tuesday or Wednesday to introduce D'Antoni. He is the past head coach of the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, and assistant coach of the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics U.S. Basketball Team.

His family also has an impressive resume. Mike's father, Lewis D'Antoni, is a former high school basketball coach and school principal. His sister, Kathy D'Antoni, is an Assistant Superintendent of Schools in West Virginia. Dan D'Antoni worked with his brother Mike as an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks. And his other brother, Mark D'Antoni, is a partner with the Bowles Rice law firm.

The annual dinner is the Education Alliance's largest fundraiser. The Education Alliance is a statewide, nonprofit research and K-12 public education fund. The organization funds Walk the Talk, a high school leadership development program; and WV eMentoring, which teams up high school students with business leaders.

Tickets are still available for the event, which starts with a 5:30 p.m. reception and a dinner at 6:30 p.m. You can purchase tickets at www.educationalliance.org or call 304-342-7850.
