Shepherd University's Wind Symphony will perform wind band classics led by student conductors at 8 p.m. Nov. 14 in the Frank Center.

Selections will include "Balkanya," an original work by Belgian composer Jan Van der Roost; "Exultate" by Samuel Hazo; "On a Hymnsong of Phillip Bliss," a chorale setting of the hymn "It is Well With My Soul" by David Holsinger; a transcription of the final two sections of Carl Orff's orchestral masterpiece "CarminaBurana"; a classic march from W.P. Chambers' "The Boys of the Old Brigade"; a transcription of "Prelude and Fugue in G minor"; an organ work by J.S. Bach; the first two movements of Vincent Persichetti's "Divertimento"; a new work by Richard Saucedo called "Windsprints"; the first movement of "English Folk Song Suite" by Ralph Vaughan Williams; "Toccata for Band" by Frank Erickson; the depiction of a sunrise in Spain from Bill Calhoun's "Morning in Madrid"; "With Quiet Courage," a ballad by Larry Daehn; and a piece by David Holsinger titled "Abram's Pursuit."

The Wind Symphony will present a variety of wind band literature as interpreted by a new generation of conductors. After completing two semesters of conducting, the symphony has selected music, studied the scores, written program notes, developed rehearsal strategies and rehearsed. Building upon a tradition of musical excellence at Shepherd, each instrumental student is provided with musical experiences and valuable lessons through the process of realizing a score and bringing the performance to life. Shepherd's Department of Music has a 100 percent placement rate for its music education majors and programs.

The Wind Symphony concert is $10 for general admission and $5 for students.
