It's been a little more than 30 years since the Charleston Marriott opened its doors.
On Tuesday, Nov. 13 state, city and congressional leaders gathered for the unveiling of the hotel's $8 million dollar renovation project. It includes a new lobby, furniture, fireplace, gift shop and a new front desk.
A number of employees reminiscenced about the early days of the hotel. Some have been on the staff for decades, including six employees who've working at the Charleston Marriott since it opened.
"Well, back then you had really no computers. Everything was done with a big, large diary book to block meeting space. You had a typewriter that typed up all of the event orders. As time went on you had computers and things could be done more efficiently," said Larry Walker, a 30-year veteran of the hotel.
More than 2.8 million guests have stayed in the Charleston Marriott since it opened.
