CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia officials are on course to settle two close legislative races from last week's voting.
The canvass of the general election began Tuesday. Officials in the 55 counties are checking their results and reviewing provisional ballots.
Kanawha County's canvass affirmed the close victory by Republican John McCuskey over Delegate Bobbie Hatfield. The Democrat lost her House of Delegates seat by 41 votes.
Another GOP candidate, Mike Folk, appeared to defeat Democrat Donn Marshall by 74 votes for a Berkeley County House seat. That county's canvass includes around 125 provisional ballots. County officials expected to announce a final tally on Thursday.
Once the final county finishes its canvass, candidates have 48 hours to request recounts. County commissions must then sign off on election results before they're certified.
