'One Night Without A Home' event to raise awareness about Charleston homeless problem

The push is on to bring attention to the region's homeless problem.

The Kanawha Valley Collective and Sojourners Shelter in Charleston announced on Wednesday the "One Night Without A Home" event. It's an awareness sleep out that's designed to raise awareness and to collect food for area pantries.

The event will also help educate people about the increasing demand for emergency assistance for people without homes and to hear from a veteran who has struggled with homelessness.

"What I found was, once I got involved with these organizations and these different events, is that there is a lot of people in this community that care," said Joe Barker, a former homeless veteran.

"One Night Without A Home" takes place Friday, Nov. 14.
