During its annual celebration in Charleston on Wednesday evening, the Alliance honored Lewis Joseph D'Antoni of Mullens, WV. Lewis D'Antoni is the father of Mike D'Antonio, who was just hired as the new coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.
The elder D'Antoni was honored for his lifetime legacy of teaching, coaching and mentoring youth in West Virginia. "It's unbelievable. I'm, when I heard that I was selected, I got on cloud 9. I mean, it's unbelievable to me," said D'Antoni.
Lewis D'Antoni will be 99 years old in December. His son, Mike, was unable to attend the event due to his new position with the Lakers. Event organizers set up a Skype feed from the Charleston Marriott so he could watch the ceremony online.
