UPDATE:

The W.Va. Board of Education has voted to fire the state superintendent.

On Nov. 15, the board voted to fire Jorea M. Marple.

Liza Cordeiro with the office of communications also confirmed that board members Jenny Phillips and Priscilla Haden have resigned. Their resignations are effective of December.

Cordeiro said the board will release more information soon.

Marple is the wife of Attorney General Darrell McGraw, who was defeated last week in his bid for re-election.

According to the W.Va. Dept. of Education site, Marple took over as West Virginia's state superintendent of schools on March 1, 2011.

Marple has 35 years of experience in education.
