Students at Peyton Elementary spent the day with some of their favorite books today.
Over 100 volunteers from Marshall football players to public officials gave a few moments of their time reading to children as part of national Read to Me day.
More than 100 students participated in the event.
Principal Marion Ward said the event has grown so much over the years that it was moved to the gym to allow students to have a one-on-one connection with the readers.
Some readers dressed in costumes of characters from their favorite books.
"Reading not only opens their imagination, but it takes them places where they have not traveled but we hope it draws enough interest so they will want to travel to those places" Ward said.
