ELKINS, W.Va. (AP) — The U.S. Forest Service plans to acquire more than 400 acres of forest in Randolph County.

The tract will become part of the Monongahela National Forest.

The Inter-Mountain reports that the Forest Service is partnering with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Nature Conservancy to acquire the land. The acquisition is part of an ongoing effort called the Thunderstruck Project to preserve nearly 2,000 acres of former timber company land.
