On Monday, Nov. 19 around 1:05 a.m., officers with the Charleston Police Dept. were dispatched to a disturbance call at 824 Central Avenue.

According to dispatchers, police were originally called about a strange man walking around the apartment knocking on doors.

When police arrived they found James Baldwin, 51, on the second floor of the apartment.

When police questioned Baldwin about what he was doing he responded that he was trying to get his bag that he had stored at a friend's house on the ninth floor.

Police asked Baldwin if he knew what floor he was on and he responded, "The ninth."

According to a criminal complaint, police then escorted Baldwin to the apartment in question and knocked on the door.

A woman police later identified as Jennifer Johnson opened the door.  One of the police officers spotted components of meth making and smelled a strong chemical odor.

Police then asked Johnson to exit the apartment.  Christopher Smith and Jamie Myers were also ordered to leave the apartment.

After questioning the occupants, police swept the house for additional occupants and unplugged the stove because it had a pot with an unknown boiling substance on it.

A detective with the Metro Drug Unit was called to the scene to determine if there was a clandestine meth lab operating.

When the detective arrived, he confirmed the operation of a meth lab.

Johnson, Smith and Myers were all charged with operating a clandestine meth lab.

In July of this year, Myers and Johnson were charged with operating a meth lab and released on bond.
