The West Virginia Education Association plans to light up the night with its displeasure over the recent firing of state school superintendent, Jorea Marple.

The group has scheduled a candlelight vigil for 5:30 p.m. Nov. 20 in front of WVEA headquarters on Quarrier Street in Charleston.

"Others who are upset with the deplorable way Dr. Marple was dismissed are welcome to participate," reads a news release from the WVEA. "Your participation will show support for Dr. Marple and your disdain for the way she was let go."

Marple was hired as the state superintendent of schools in 2011. During a Nov. 15 board meeting, members went into executive session, then came out and voted to fire Marple. Her employment status was not an item on the board agenda.
