LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Gov. Steve Beshear is lending his support to a privately funded campaign aimed at raising awareness of "smurfing," purchasing products containing pseudoephedrine for methamphetamine makers.
The public awareness campaign is sponsored by the Kentucky Retail Federation, the Kentucky Pharmacists Association and the Consumer Healthcare Products Association.
The goal is simply to provide signs for pharmacy counters to alert customers that smurfing can lead to jail sentences.
Beshear joined lawmakers and business leaders on Monday in Lexington to kick off the campaign.
