Snow and Cold Temperatures Return

Posted: Updated:

After several days of dry and unseasonably warm weather, a cold front will bring big changes to the Tri-State this weekend.

Rain showers and high winds will impact the area on Friday as a cold front approaches from the west.  Rain will begin late Friday morning and continue through the early evening before clearing Friday night.

Behind the cold front, colder air will filter into the area late Friday night into Saturday.

As the cold air crosses over the warm Great Lakes, lake effect snow showers will develop into a series of snow bands and push southeast.  We will see some snow showers or flurries Friday night and early Saturday morning.  If caught under one of these narrow snow bands, a dusting to a coating of snow is possible, with a couple of inches likely in the mountains.

Snow showers will come to an end for most of us by late Saturday morning.  Additional snowfall is possible in the mountains through Saturday evening before drier and clearer conditions take hold late Saturday night and Sunday.

Saturday's high temperatures will struggle to top 40 degrees, while Sunday looks a bit warmer with highs in the mid 40s.
