Motorcyclist injured after police pursuit

UPDATE: The motorcyclist has been identified as 21-year-old Steven Reilly. He is listed in serious but stable condition, according to Kentucky State Police.

The accident remains under investigation by Detective Toby Gardner.


At 8:30 p.m. on Friday, a motorcyclist was speeding westbound along I-64, near the 113-mile marker. According to Kentucky State Police, troopers pursued the motorcyclist and initiated a routine traffic stop.

During the stop, the driver became uncooperative and ran away, crossing over the median to the right shoulder of the eastbound lane. The driver then attempted to cross back towards the median, when he was struck by a vehicle traveling along I-64.

The motorcyclist was airlifted to the UK Hospital in Lexington, Ky., where he is listed in critical condition. No other injures were reported.

The Kentucky State Police is investigating.
