West Virginia University has one
less fraternity: Phi Gamma Delta has been permanently suspended from campus
after an alleged hazing incident involving late-night drinking at the chapter
house last month.
Director of Student Organization Services Ron Justice says
the hazing occurred while the fraternity was already on temporary suspension by
both WVU and its national organization.
WVU hadn't previously made the October incident public. Justice
said Tuesday that's because the complaint came to his office, not WVU police.
An investigation was completed before the Thanksgiving
break, and chapter members were informed of the suspension Monday night.
The chapter has about 50 members, including 23 who live at
the house. 6 of those are graduating in December. Justice says the other 17
will have to find new housing by semester's end.
