Higher education officials from half way around the world are in West Virginia this week. They're from South Africa's Durban University of Technology.
Officials visited the University of Charleston on Tuesday to learn about teaching and assessment strategies used by colleges in the United States. The goal is to broaden the educational experience of each student beyond their field of study and to better prepare graduates for the job force.
"You know, both from the academic point of view for staff, but also from a student's perspective in terms of those marks, almost bench marks you could say, what are those key points that I have to achieve in my development. It charts a direction for the student as well as the staff," said Kalawathie Sattar from the Durban University of Technology.
The South African Educators will finish up their visit in West Virginia on Wednesday, then move on to stops in Little Rock, Arkansas, Miami, Washington DC and New York.
