Huntington firefighters were busy Wednesday afternoon battling flames at an apartment building.
The fire started in the basement of the Le Salle apartments in the 1000 block of 8th street and spread to three floors through a pipe chase. Fire damaged 3 apartments and there was heavy smoke damage throughout the building.
No injuries were reported, but it could have been a lot worse. Randy Ellis, Chief of the Huntington Fire Department says, "The maintenance man was on scene and noticed the fire right off at the beginning. Within a couple minutes it all ready got out of hand by then , by the time he had saw it. He couldn't contain it at the time."
Eighth Street was closed temporarily while firefighters battled the flames.
Green Valley and Barboursville Fire departments were on stand by because all available Huntington firefighters were on this scene.
The State Fire Marshals Office has been called in to help with the investigation.
