Mingo County man accused of hitting school bus arrested

A man driving a vehicle that crashed into a school bus on Nov. 26 has been arrested.

Police say Lewis Windle Perry, 40, of Wilsondale, WV, was driving the vehicle under the influence of drugs, crossed the center line, and hit a Mingo County Board of Education school bus. 

The crash happened near Rt. 52 in Breeden, Mingo County at about 5:30 the evening of Nov. 7.

The driver of the bus was not injured and no students were aboard.

The investigating deputy said they found beer cans on the floor of the car and smelled alcohol on Perry's breath.

He was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital, where he tested positive for marijuana and Xanax.

A passenger in Perry's vehicle, Randolph Marcume, was killed in the accident. The criminal complaint lists Perry as "a person who may be classified as a spouse, parent or guardian to the victim."

Perry is charged with reckless driving, a misdemeanor, and driving under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances or drugs causing death, a felony.

He is being held at Southwestern Regional Jail on a combined $52,500 bond.
