Chics for Charity hosts inaugural 'holiday survival' event in South Charleston

Posted: Updated:

The Foundation for Thomas and St. Francis Hospitals has started a new charity group called "Chics for Charity".

The goal is to raise money for the GAP fund and other services at St. Francis Hospital. Organizers also want to create opportunities for women in the Kanawha Valley to network and create opportunities for each other in business and in the community.

Thursday night saw the group's first event. It was a "Holiday Survival" night. It featured a number of businesses that cater to food, decorating, fashion and more. "Women in the community learn to de-stress for the holidays, how to entertain, how to make gift giving a little bit easier at the same time we are raising money to give back to the community to benefit those people who do not have all the luxuries and benefits that we do when it comes to health care," said Sandy Zando, with the Foundation for Thomas and St. Francis Hospitals.

WOWK 13News Anchor April Kaull served as the emcee for the evening's fashion show.

Chics for Charity is already planning an event for Spring 2013. You can learn more about how to get involved at www.thefoundationwv.org.
