    Alpha Natural Resources announced July 31 that 11 affiliated coal mines and other facilities in West Virginia could be idled by mid-October, potentially causing 1,100 to be laid off.

Mardi Gras Casino & Resort will host a career fair on Tuesday, Dec. 4 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.

There are 60 new positions available at the casino which will correspond with the opening of a new buffet.

"Our great team members are the ones who continue to make Mardi Gras Casino & Resort such a great environment for each and every guest," General Manager Robert Lagg said in a news release. "Our staff is known for their welcoming and engaging personalities, and they take pride in creating a winning experience for each guest that walks through the casino doors. We look forward to adding more staff to help us continue to create this environment for our guests."

The career fair will be held on the lower level of the casino.

Qualified applicants will have an opportunity to participate in the interview, screening and drug testing process with the human resources staff, according to the release.
