The First Presbyterian Church of Charleston recently
announced it will open Hope Village,
a year-round fair trade shop.
According to the church's news release, the church has hosted
a global market, which returns 100 percent of the proceeds back to the artisans
who made the products. Hope Village
will continue this practice, the church states.
The village will sell items including jewelry, wood carvings,
children's items, wood nativities and baskets from Africa.
"By making a purchase from Hope
Village, you are directly and
profoundly impacting the lives of each artisan and their family," the news
release states. "Every purchase enables the artisans to help support their
family with food, clothing, shelter and education enabling them to live a more
just and sustainable life."
Hope Village
is located on the first floor of First Presbyterian Church, corner of Virginia
Street and Leon Sullivan
Way in Charleston.
From December 3-22, shopping hours will be: Wednesdays, 10 a.m.– 2 p.m.; Thursdays, 5 p.m.–8 p.m.; Fridays, 10
a.m.–2 p.m., and Saturdays, 10
a.m.–2 p.m.
