Spirit Airlines announced Dec. 6 that it moved up its start date for seasonal service from Charleston's Yeager Airport to Myrtle Beach, S.C.

According to a news release from the airline, Spirit will begin two weekly nonstop flights between Myrtle Beach and Charleston on March 2. The airline will expand its service to three weekly flights on April 25.

Flights initially will be offered on Wednesdays and Saturdays with departures leaving Charleston at 1 p.m. and arriving in South Carolina at 2:11 p.m. Flights from Myrtle Beach will leave that airport at 10:55 a.m. and arrive at Yeager Airport at 12:06 p.m.

"This whole region will be excited to see Spirit Airlines bringing back low fares on large jets to Myrtle Beach," Yeager Airport spokesman Brian Belcher said in the news release. "Spirit's seasonal service between Charleston and Myrtle Beach has been very popular with vacationers. This earlier starting date for service will allow area golfers to take advantage of Myrtle Beach's spring golf season on one of over 120 courses in the area."

Spirit Airlines operates a fleet of Airbus jets and promotes itself as offering "ultra low fares" for families and other vacation travelers

"We're thrilled to save consumers money while satisfying their desire to travel.  With our affordable low fares, we offer the best value in travel," Spirit's chief marketing officer Barry Biffle said.

"The availability of affordable transportation into the Myrtle Beach area is crucial to building our tourism economy and enhances our ability to market the area as a year-round, world-class vacation destination," said Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce/CVB. "We're very pleased to see these early start dates and added Spring capacity to Myrtle Beach International Airport as Spirit continues to provide our visitors and residents with low fare options."
