Public forum to look at WV marijuana laws Tuesday

Posted: Updated:

During the West Virginia's regular, monthly interim committee meetings, an hour-long public form at 5 p.m. Dec. 11 in the House of Delegates chamber will feature reform advocates from the Marijuana Policy Projects.

Former police lieutenant and FBI unit chief, James Nolan, who is an associate professor of sociology at West Virginia will speak as well as Matt Simon, a West Virginia native who serves as a legislative analyst for the Marijuana Policy Project.

According to MPP, the District of Columbia and 18 other states have passed medical marijuana laws, and 15 states have removed criminal penalties for the possession of small amounts of marijuana.

MPP is the largest marijuana policy reform organization in the United States and has been trying to change state-level marijuana laws since 2000.
