The West Virginia University College of Law announced Dec. 10 that it has received a $250,000 gift from Chesapeake Energy Corp.
The funds will support the college's annual National Energy and Sustainability Moot Court Competition.
"We are deeply grateful to Chesapeake Energy for their generosity," said Joyce McConnell, dean of the College of Law. "It demonstrates their commitment to supporting legal education, especially in the extremely relevant area of energy law."
Established in 2011, WVU's National Energy and Sustainability Moot Court Competition highlights emerging trends in energy law as well as recent developments in sustainable energy production. The first of its kind in the nation, the competition attracts teams from law schools across the country. Participants in the competition focus on an energy problem and hone their advocacy skills while networking with peers, government regulators, and industry representatives.
The 2013 National Energy and Sustainability Moot Court Competition takes place March 14-16. It is hosted by the WVU College of Law Moot Court Board and the Center for Energy and Sustainable Development.
