CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The University of Charleston's takeover of Mountain State University is complete with an accrediting body's approval of UC's expansion to Beckley and Martinsburg.
President Ed Welch announced Tuesday the Higher Learning Commission has approved full accreditation to 32 UC programs on three campuses and online.
Welch called it a historic day for the university.
In June, the commission revoked Mountain State's accreditation because of leadership, organizational and integrity issues. UC took over Mountain State's campuses in Beckley and Martinsburg so students can complete their degrees.
Spring semester classes in Beckley and Martinsburg will begin Jan. 14. Online sessions start Jan. 7.
