SISSONVILLE, West Virginia -

Wednesday many families who lived near the massive gas explosion in Sissonville, headed to the scene to see what they could save.

Shirley McMillion said she started shaking while she was stuck in traffic Wednesday before her house even came into view. But when saw what was left, for the first time, reality hit.

All that is left is brick wall, two charred vehicles and smoldering debris.

"We keep talking about something and thinking well we'll go home and get it," McMillion said, choking back tears. "But then we think and we catch ourselves and remember we don't have a home to go to and there is nothing there."

McMillion works the nightshift as a nurse and says normally she would have been home sleeping. Her daughter had talked her into going to a Christmas luncheon.

The family lost everything in the fire.
