    Alpha Natural Resources announced July 31 that 11 affiliated coal mines and other facilities in West Virginia could be idled by mid-October, potentially causing 1,100 to be laid off.

UPDATE

Frontier Communications has determined that the756 Alum Creek telephone exchange was affected by Thursday morning's fiber cut in St. Albans.

Residents cannot call the non-emergency number 304-348-8111 or 304-357-0191. Residents may still dial 911 for emergency or non-emergency situations until the phone lines are repaired.

Frontier Communications has informed Metro 911 communications that the phones lines are in full service in the Nitro area.


ORIGINAL

According to an alert from Metro 911, Frontier customers in the Nitro, Tyler Heights areas are experiencing a phone outage.

Around six thousand customers are affected by the phone outage.

Metro is advising people to use their cell phone if they need to contact 911 and if they do not own a cell phone to go to their nearest fire station or medic station.

If an emergency comes up, the Nitro Fire Dept. is located at 2009 20th Street in Nitro.
