LOGAN, West Virginia -

The New Covenant Fellowship sits on a hill overlooking downtown Logan. This week the church was a victim of theft.

Missionary Dan Lawrence walked by a side door of the church and noticed something wasn't right.

A door that doesn't even have a handle on the outside had been left open.

When he went into the basement Lawrence noticed a saw, a welder and a heater were missing.

The church had planned to use that heater to warm their clothing closet that provides free clothing to the community every Thursday evening.

"When I first saw it I was like 'why would anybody do this'. We try to do everything we can for people and if they want something all they have to do is ask," Lawrence said.

Church members say this isn't the first time they have been a target of thieves. In previous incidents someone made off with a computer and cash.

If you have any information about the theft you can contact the Logan Police Department or the church.

Lawrence's wife Debbie said if the items are returned to the church there will be no questions asked.
