Kentucky minority leaders here to stay

Posted: Updated:

The minority leaders of the Kentucky Senate will remain the same for two more years.

Senate Democrats have re-elected R.J. Palmer of Winchester as minority floor leader, Johnny Ray Turner of Prestonsburg as minority caucus chairman, and Jerry Rhoads of Madisonville as minority whip.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports Denise Harper Angel of Louisville challenged Turner for caucus chair. They were tied after the first vote Monday night in Lexington, but a second vote gave Turner the nod.

The legislature meets January 8 for a 30-day session.

Republicans have a 23-14 majority over Democrats in the Senate, with one independent. Republicans chose their leaders last month.

House Democrats and Republicans are expected to select leaders when the session begins.
