PARKERSBURG, WV -

Marie Foster Gnage, president of West Virginia University-Parkersburg, has been selected the chair of the 32-member board of directors of the non-profit American Association of Community Colleges. 

The American Association of Community Colleges is the primary advocacy organization for the nation's more than 1,100 community, junior and technical colleges.

Gnage became the sixth president of WVU-P in 2004. Before that, she served as senior vice president for academic affairs at Raritan Valley Community College in New Jersey, assistant vice chancellor for education services at Pima Community College in Arizona; vice president for instruction at Central Florida Community College in Florida, dean of academic affairs and the head of English/English as a Second Language at Broward Community College in Florida. She also served as assistant professor of English at Florida A&M University.

She earned her bachelor's degree in English from Alcorn A&M College, her master's in English from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, and her doctorate in English from Florida State University. 

She has completed professional development programs through the League for Innovation and the American Council on Education.
