'Super Saturday' will bring big crowds to local shopping plazas

Millions of Americans are expect to crowd local malls and shopping centers for one of the biggest shopping days of the year, also known as 'Super Saturday'.

The extra crowds will mean more cars on the road.

Shoppers can expect some extra wait time when trying to park at any of the plazas along Corridor G, or in the Charleston Town Center Mall parking garage.

Both Charleston Police and South Charleston Police said they will have extra patrols in these areas, specifically at the mall.

"We extra patrol all of the shopping areas just to make sure that people are safe. We offer people walks to their cars. We usually have four officers a night over there," said Sgt. Bobby Eggleton, Charleston Police Department.

Car break-ins are usually one of the biggest problems during busy weekends like this one.

Police said people often take their shopping bags to their car and then go back into stores for more shopping.

Sometimes, people forget to relock their vehicles. These shoppers are easy targets for thieves, police said.

Uniformed officers will also be available for shoppers who might be too afraid to walk to their vehicles alone.

"If you feel uncomfortable at all, please stop one of the officers and ask them if they'll walk you to your car. They may even carry your packages for you," Eggleton said.

If you want to miss the traffic and crowds, stay away from the local shopping plazas.
