NTelos Wireless will collect mobile phones in its retail stores to benefit military personnel, the company recently announced.

"For the second consecutive year, nTelos Wireless is pleased to be part of the Cell Phones for Soldiers program and assist the servicemen and women who serve our country everyday," Conrad Hunter, chief operating officer for nTelos Wireless, said in the news release. "We encourage everyone in the community to participate, and hope that our contribution will ease the burden of deployment for military members and their families."

But it's not just for nTelos customers.

The wireless retailer encourages everyone to bring gently-used mobile phones to any nTelos store until Dec. 31.

Proceeds from collection and recycling of donated phones will assist Cell Phones for Soldiers. The goal is to provide free communication tools to active military men and women.

Funds are used to purchase items such as prepaid calling cards for deployed troops.
"We are so thankful for the generosity of nTelos Wireless and their loyalty to our Armed Forces," Brittany Bergquist, co-founder of Cell Phones for Soldiers, said in the release. "Virginia is home to many servicemen and women and we hope to reach all deployed Virginia heroes with free calls home. I'm looking forward to the collection drive during the holidays and want to encourage people to stop by their neighborhood nTelos Wireless store."
