Police said post-Christmas trash attracts thieves.
In Olive Hill, Ky., officers said several people have already been victims of theft.
"They see a big box right outside your house, and that right there just tells them what's inside your home," said Patrolman James Frint, with the Olive Hill Police Department. "Gives them incentive, I mean, they know what's there. They know they don't have to go looking for something to see if there's something valuable in the house. They know it's there once you set it out on the curb."
Police recommend cutting up boxes and bagging them before taking them to the curb, or taking the boxes to a trash disposal facility or dump.
