Stormtracker meteorologists forecast icy surfaces; urge caution

Icy roads face Thursday morning commuters in many neighborhoods according to the Stormtracker meteorologists.

"We are seeing some very light flurries this morning but we've also had some drizzle overnight," said morning meteorologist Bryan Hughes.  "This is that classic situation where it looks like it's just wet but there are some spots that are glazed over.  The one spot you might not think about is the porch steps or a raised wooden deck."

Temperatures this morning have been in the upper 20s to 31 degrees, meaning any untreated roads have the chance to freeze over.  The StormTracker meteorologists expect up to an inch of fresh snow in the high terrain areas east of Summersville-Beckley, with a few flurries in the lowlands.

"Just remember, any amount of ice can be hard to drive on, and since most people live on or near a secondary road, those bridges, overpasses, driveways and sidewalks could easily have a sheen of ice on them this morning, so be careful out there," Chief Meteorologist Spencer Adkins said.

At the same time this large storm is moving out of the area, the StormTracker meteorologists are looking at a possible new storm for Saturday morning.

"The models show signs of another storm rolling up the Ohio Valley and across the mountains and there could be some accumulation of snow for a while before seeing a possible change back to rain, so we need to watch things closely," said Adkins.  "It's a busy season tracking these low pressure areas and we urge viewers to remain weather aware as they travel to and from holiday destinations in the next several days."
