CHARLESTON, WV -

The 2013 West Virginia Official State Travel Guide is now available by request or free of cost at Welcome Center locations throughout the state.

"Travelers from near and far can learn, research and plan great adventures in West Virginia with the new guide – or a click on their smartphone," Tomblin said in a news release.

The compact-sized guide will feature QR codes in several advertisements for users to scan to access information with their digital devices.

The guide is arranged by travel regions and includes information about shopping, dining, outdoor recreation, lodging, culture and historical events.

The cover photo features an evening sky above the Capitol dome with fireworks to reflect the celebratory spirit of 150 years of statehood, according to the news release from Tomblin's office.

The sesquicentennial theme continues with 150 opportunities to experience the Mountain State, 150 reasons to love West Virginia State Parks and also a Scout's guide to family fun, welcoming the Boy Scouts of America and their families to the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve next year.

West Virginia Division of Tourism Commissioner Betty Carver said the guide will help families plan a number of different visits and itineraries.

The guide also will be available at wvtourism.com in early January.
