Athens County woman is arrested after leading deputies on a trail

Posted: Updated:

Deputies went to Elliotsville Road in Athens to find a juvenile suspect in an active case.  When deputies got there, one recognized the house for a previous incident that involved a female with an active warrant.

When deputies got to the door, a woman answered, but was not forthcoming.  A male then came to the door and told police that the female's name was Tina Phelps and she was the juvenile's mother.  When he attempted to go back into the house to get the woman, he told police she'd probably snuck through a window and was gone.

Deputies went in to search the house to try and find her, but had no luck. While inside the house, deputies found that there was an outstanding warrant for Phelps out of Athens County.

The deputies then went to Phelps' father's camper at Red Men Lodge, which is close by the residence. They found the key laying on the ground and fresh footprints leading inside.

While deputies were standing outside, a male subject approached them and stated that his father owned the camper. He agreed to call his father, and while he was speaking to him, they heard the ring of a cell phone come from inside the camper.

When they entered the camper, they found Tina Phelps hiding in a bed. Phelps was arrested and transported to the Regional Jail.
