ST. ALBANS, West Virginia -
For the first time in decades the St. Albans Fire Department is planning to add three new firefighting positions to their ranks.
Fire Chief Stephen Parsons said it is something he has been hoping for since he joined the department.
Parsons said the department is also preparing to deal with some members retiring.
He says hours of training are required before new recruits can start responding to calls. They also have to keep up with physical fitness requirements and additional training while they are employed.
According to the St. Albans Fire Department website they respond to close to 1,700 emergencies every year.
