There is a new West Virginia weight record for yellow perch, according to the Division of Natural Resources.
Joshua Estes, who lives in Hurricane, caught a 1.93 pound fish from Summersville Lake in Nicholas County in December.
The fish was 14.5 inches long.
The DNR said Estes used a live chub for bait.
The previous weight record was held by Charles Mayle.
In 1985, Mayle caught a yellow perch that weighed 1.83 pounds. He caught the fish from Tygart Lake in Taylor County.
The length record is still held by Craig Hollandsworth, who caught a 15.44 inch yellow perch from Summersville Lake in 2010.
