The Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association reopened for adoptions on Thursday. The shelter was closed for two weeks after a distemper outbreak.
Workers spent several days cleaning the facility and scrubbing everything down with bleach. Shelter director Donna Clark said the first day of adoptions was slow. They only have a few animals.
Most of the conversations she had with people were with about looking for lost pets."We took in a few dogs. We took in some strays. So if anybody is missing a dog, they need to come here and look and we've took in some puppies that the owner turned in," said Clark.
Clark also wanted to remind the public about how important it is to have cats and dogs spayed and neutered and to keep their vaccinations updated.
