A man is recovering at the hospital after he lost his leg in a motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon.

According to dispatchers, the accident happened a little after 3:00 p.m. on Oakwood Road near Route 119.

According to police, a car hit a motorcycle after failing to yield.  When the car hit the motorcycle the rider was thrown from his bike.

"He turned in front of motorcycle and struck the motorcycle.  The motorcyclist was thrown off his motorcycle, it hit his leg, it was amputated on scene.  He's been transported to the hospital and is receiving medical treatment at this time," said Corporal Brian Jones, Charleston Police Department.

The driver of the car was ticketed for failure to yield.

Friends of the victim said he is out of surgery and is expected to survive.
