The deadline to nominated a young professional for The State Journal's Generation Next: 40 Under 40 is today at midnight.
Generation Next highlights 40 Mountain State residents younger than 40 who are making a difference in their community, their profession and the state. 2013 marks the eighth year The State Journal has highlighted the state's young leaders.
"Generation Next: 40 Under 40 is one of the coolest awards programs The State Journal puts on," said managing editor Beth Ryan. "So often, all West Virginians seem to hear is how our brightest and best have moved on to other states. But the Generation Next program shows that thought is far from the truth. The state is home to thousands of young professionals who work hard every day in West Virginia. They are bright, they are successful, they are dedicated, and they are proud to call the Mountain State home."
Since the program started in 2006, The State Journal has recognized 280 young professionals who work for the private sector, the public sector and with both for-profit and non-profit entities.
Nominees must be younger than 40 as of March 14 and must be in his or her current profession for at least two years.
Award recipients will be selected by an independent panel of judges later this month. A special section highlighting each of the winners will be published in March. A reception honoring the 2013 class, which is open to previous winners and the public, will be March 14 at the Culture Center at the West Virginia Capital Complex.
