Kanawha County dispatchers tell 13 News that Greenbrier street was back open early Tuesday morning.
ORIGINAL:
Kanawha County emergency officials are warning drivers to avoid Greenbrier Street in the area of Airport Road near the Hemingway subdivision.
A water leak on Monday evening created icy conditions on the road. The roadway is closed heading toward Airport Road until the situation is resolved. Yeager Airport put the following message on its Facebook page Monday night.
"We advise those traveling to the airport this evening to take I-79 to exit 5 and proceed via W Virginia 114 S to Airport Road until further notice."
There were at least four accidents reported in that area within five to ten minutes, right around 7:30 p.m. The worst crash resulted in the driver being taken to the hospital for treatment.
Please use caution if driving in the area. Crews were called to treat the roadway. There is no word when the leak will be repaired.
Crews hoped to have the situation resolved for the Tuesday morning commute and traffic to Capital High School, but there is not specific timeline for the repairs.
