A $500 fine and up to a year in jail, that's the penalty that 14-year-old Jared Marcum, who was arrested after refusing to change his NRA shirt, could face, now that a judge has allowed the prosecution to move forward with it's obstructing an officer charge against him.
WEST UNION, W.Va. (AP) - State Police and the Regional Jail Authority are investigating the severe beating of an inmate at the North Central Regional Jail.
Nineteen-year-old Jeron Hawkins was being treated Wednesday at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, but a spokeswoman wouldn't comment on his status.
Authority Director Joe DeLong says Hawkins suffered very serious head injuries. He says Hawkins was still alive Wednesday afternoon, but his family has been notified.
Hawkins was convicted of first-degree murder last fall in the 2011 shooting of 28-year-old Lucas Lee outside a nightclub in Morgantown.
The Clarksburg Exponent-Telegram (http://bit.ly/XkuWbI) says Hawkins was in an altercation Monday with 35-year-old Anthony Young, a federal prisoner who was being held at the regional jail.
Young was to be sentenced on three federal charges Jan. 3, but the hearing was postponed.
